A full field of 20 horses are lined up to run in the Kentucky Derby. Post Time is set for 6:57PM Eastern Time from Churchill Downs with NBC to provide the TV coverage.
Our Win horse pick will be #3 Epicenter. The three year old has four wins and a second in six lifetime starts. He broke his Maiden at Churchill Downs going a mile then ship to Fairgrounds where the picked up wins in the Graded Leconte, Risen Star and Louisiana Derby. He has shown Beyer improvement in every race. In his Derby Preps Epicenter posted an 88 Beyer in the Leconte, 98 in the Risen Star and a Last Race Best 102 in the Louisiana Derby. In the Louisiana Derby he showed ability to win in stalking ability as he is at or near the lead in all of his races.
With our Exacta Pick we will tie #3 Epicenter and Box him with #19 Zoros. A lightly raced three year old who has three lifetime starts. In his first and only Graded race he was second to Epicenter posting a 98 Beyer. This horse is on the improve.
In the Trifecta will be Box #3 Epicenter with #19 Zoros and #6 Messier. This former Bob Baffert trained Colt is Southern California based making his first out of state start. As in the money finishes in all four of his Graded Stakes races. Messier is the winner of the Robert B Lewis Stake at Santa Anita and ran second in the Santa Anita Derby. He posted a 103 Beyer in the Robert B Lewis and his last Race Beyer was 99 in the Santa Anita Derby.
Our Superfecta Box is #3 Epicenter, #19 Zoros, #6 Messier with #8 Charge It and #Pioneer of Medina. Charge It comes off a closing second to White Abarrio in the Florida Derby and the extra 1/8th of a mile will help him. Lightly raced Colt has three races at Gulfstream. Pioneer of Medina ran third to Epicenter in the Louisiana Derby which I rate as the best prep race leading into the Kentucky Derby.
