Los Angeles at Anaheim NHL Pick Prediction 4/19/2022
Kings: L.A. has five games remaining, standing four points behind Edmonton for the rights to hold home-ice to the teams’ first-round playoff series.
With Vegas gagging last night, and Vancouver just too far back to catch up, an L.A.-Edmonton series is all-but-mathematically wrapped up.
Is L.A. hot or cold: 2-1 ATS L3, 2-4 ATS in L6, 4-4 ATS in L8. Along the last 8, the wins were 2-2 and the losses were 2-2 to the Totals. No help there!
Still, the Kings haven’t played well since they officially lost all-star defenseman Drew Doughty for the season (wrist). L.A. ranks among the NHL leaders in man-games most due to injuries, recalling players from the Ontario (Cald.) Reign of the AHL more than 50 times.
Ducks: And Anaheim loves messing with the Kings in another Freeway Faceoff series.
We all know how Anaheim dropped 11 straight games, yet have gone a reasonable 3-5-2 SU (3-7 ATS) ever since, including points in their last three games.
Prediction: This is the first of a home-and-homer series. Some 83% of H&H’ers have been spilt this season, so that mean’s Anaheim should win one of the two. The game that Anaheim will have its best odds is this game, so a small flyer on the… DUCKS.
Minnesota at Montreal NHL Pick Prediction 4/19/2022
Wild: Minnesota remains one point behind St. Louis in the battle to see which squad gets home ice for their first round playoff series, even though the Blues are piling up goals at a near franchise-record pace.
The Wild special teams units have been awful of later despite the club going 4-0-2 SU (4-2 ATS), with both losses coming in overtime to the Blues.
Despite a ton of “loser points,” MIN is just 3-4 ATS on the road (3-1-3 SU), so the value may be to go with a 60-minute regulation tie. This would be especially true since it’s a non-conference game, so the “bonus” point would not affect them.
Canadiens: Montreal doesn’t care about the bonus point because they’re in last place and long ago were eliminated from postseason consideration.
The Canadiens have dropped five straight, The last three games have truly been bad, out-scored by a margin of 16-5.
Prediction: If you like Minnesota, considering that the Habs are now mailing it in, the Puck Line should be your play. However, our official pick is WILD on the money line.
Florida at NY Islanders NHL Pick Prediction 4/19/2022
Panthers: If Florida defenseman Gustav Forsling can score in the last few games, that would give the Panthers a total of a dozen players with double-digits in goal scored. Wow!
And it doesn’t matter if its 5-on-5 or special teams, as half of the goals by Sam Reinhart (28 goals) have come on the power play (13, so he’s one short).
The Cats are riding a 10-game winning streak and are only playing too — besides avoiding injuries — to capture the President’s Trophy, if they care to.
In Last four, Florida is out-scoring the opposition, 19-5, including consecutive 6-1 wipeouts of Winnipeg and Detroit.
And with the playoffs coming up, the league office’s PR machine is ready to put the spotlight on Florida in its first trip to NYC in more than two months.
As for goaltending, does it really matter if the starter is Sergei Bobrovsky or Spencer Knights?
Florida leads the season series, 2-0, with wins of 5-1 and 6-1.
Isles: This is the first home game since the passing of legendary Islanders standout Mike Bossy, who holds the record (even over Wayne Gretzky) for most consecutive 50-goals seasons with 9. The Hall of Fame center led NYI to four straight Stanley Cup victories in the early 1980s.
Starting goalie Ilya Sorokin has been a .500 player on the road, but at home, he’s 7-1-1 SU (7-2 ATS) in L9, erasing memories of the poor start when COVID hit the roster. The one regulation loss was to Tampa Bay– no shame there.
Centre Mathew Barzal was fined $2.5K by the NHL for unsportsmanlike conduct. Reportedly, hsi teammates, while meeting inn “the room,” split the cost at $100 per player because it was a “just cause ” While on the bench, he grabbed Toronto’s Mitch Marner to prevent him from cheap-shooting a teammate.
Prediction: Florida isn’t just facing pressure with a long win streak, or facing the NYC media, or the league spotlight, or the Tribute to Bossy Night, or… take the ISLANDERS.
Should Florida win, this places my official stamp that the Panthers are the favorites to win their first Cup, even over Tampa Bay, Carolina or anyone in the Western Conference.

Calgary at Nashville NHL Pick Prediction 4/19/2022
Flames: Calgary has won 7 of 8, including last night’s snooze-fest over Chicago, 5-2, after scoring three times in the first period.
It’s because of that first period that I like them here. The coaches were able to immediately utilize the fourth line as part of the regular rotation over the final 40 minutes, so this back-to-back game in Tennessee should be less of a problem.
The only questionable move: why did No. 1 goalie Jacob Markstrom get the start in Chicago, when that was a perfect spot for reserve Daniel Vladar? So check on the goalie before wagering.
Predators: This is the first of two home games with Calgary over a 7-day span. Nashville won the only meeting this season back in November in overtime in Alberta.
The Preds, following a “mid-game collapse” last time out, will probably earn one of the two wild card berths in the Western Conference, so this could be a playoff preview — thus, holding much interest to bettors.
The next few days should be interesting in this particular race.
Tied with Dallas, the Stars took it on the chin in Vancouver last night, so Nashville has a game in-hand, which is this one. But they’re at home, so it’s like tennis — hold serve!
Consistency has been a major problem: shutout by Edmonton, but bounce back to Chicago, but changed their lunch by St. Louis, 8-2, and now here.
Plus, there is a look-ahead in a make-up game at Tampa Bay coming up next.
If one of the current Top 8 teams in the West is going to blow it and allow either Vegas or Vancouver to surpass them, it won;t be Dallas folding, it will be Nashville.
Prediction: Is Nashville really a value underdog at home? My numbers state they have a reasonable chance, but I don’t trust them, so our play is on the… FLAMES.
Winnipeg at NY Rangers NHL Pick Prediction 4/19/2022
Jets: This is elimination night for Winnipeg, and facing one of the hottest clubs in the National League. and on the road, means the golf season is 24 hours away.
Since the loss of all-star and captain Mark Scheifele for the season, the Jets came up for him in two wins… and they haven’t won since, and looked really poor in two losses in south Florida.
The schedule-maker did little to aid the Jets. From Florida to MSG, then next to Carolina to conclude a long road trip, then home to Colorado. Yikes!
Rangers: Never mind before the season, no one thought a month ago that New York could catch Carolina for the division lead — but here we are!
Great young goalie, responsible defense, a few snipers to put the puck into the net.
There’s not much to say in the Negative Column about the Broadway Blues.
Prediction: At -300 or so, NYR is the obvious play– over the weekend, faves went 20-0 in the NHL !!– but on the Pick Line of the Money Line? We usually state the money line, as the Puck Line often seems like a sucker bet. Not here! It’s the RANGERS on the Puck Line.
Columbus at San Jose NHL Pick Prediction 4/19/2022
Sharks: If it wasn’t for the expansion Seattle Kraken, San Jose is your last-place squad in the Pacific.
And don’t look for any rescue from the San Jose (AHL) Barracuda — they’re in last place in a 9-team division.
Blue Jackets: How Columbus did not come away with at least a point from L.A. or Anaheim on this West Coast trip is stunning. They played well, but got nothing in return.
Now, the California triangle trip concludes in the Bay Area against the reeling, reel-them-in Sharks.
Maybe we were mis-lead? Prior to coming to California, CBJ was 3-1-1 SU, but the wins were against Philadelphia, Detroit (in OT) and Montreal. Which means, maybe, that L.A. and Anaheim aren’t that good — hold it! They aren’t, too!
Predictions: Thus, the team playing much better hockey should, home or road… the BLUE JACKETS.
