Columbus at Anaheim NHL Pick Prediction 4/17/2022

Blue Jackets: Columbus was denied so much penetration at the blue line by Los Angeleson Saturday, a style similar to what Anaheim utilizes (it’s a style which rotates a wingers that is closest to the goal, and it looks like the left-wing trap at center ice once used by New Jersey during it Stanley Cup era).

Another sign that the season is coming to a conclusion for the Blue Jackets: too many dumb penalties when there was no need, a/k/a, being lazy and nit moving your feet.

At least the CBJ penalty kill unit is still playing well, so they help playing an Under.

Ducks: “D” is for Disastrous. “U” is for Ugh. “C” is for,,, Oh, this is an American website. I can only (legally) use that word in Canada.

Well, you get the idea.

One advantage for Anaheim, CBJ played in L.A. last night; the Ducks were in their own beds after not playing since Thursday in Tampa Bay.

Prediction: Patrik Laine (also without a “C”) continued to take 7-8 shot attempts per game, so a wager on Laine at Over 4.5 shots is a good Prop play. As for the balance of the VBJ roster, enough shots may not be taken to beat Ducks goalie John Gibson,, so look to play the UNDER.

Florida at Detroit NHL Pick Prediction 4/17/2022

Panthers: Florida was one of two National League clubs that were idle on Saturday (Islanders), so the trip should have been no big deal. According to social media, some players spend the night across the river in Windsor, Ont., to celebrate Easter with their families.

Thus, a rested roster should be ready to simply take care of business and travel to Long Island, where they should enter with a 10-game winning streak.

Some are concerned that three of the first nine wins went into overtime — two against lesser clubs — Anaheim and New Jersey — but that happens and I’m not too worried about “issues” made up by the media. No matter what happened, the string of wins will end anyway.

Red Wings: Speaking about not being totally focused, this is NOT the case in Detroit, which has defeated teams such as Boston, Winnipeg and, in their last outing, Carolina, over the past two weeks.

However, the end may be near after last night’s shutout setback at MSG by the Rangers.

Management is in a dilemma: either call up open prospects who will be playing in meaningless NHL games, or keep them at Grand Rapids (AHL), Mich. where the Griffins are in a fight for a wild card berth.

In the recent TSN list of top 50 prospects, two are from Detroit: D Simon Edvin a.sson (6th overall in 2021 NHL Draft) and G Sebastian Cossa (15th).

  1. Where are they? A. Grand Rapids.

Prediction: Of course, the PANTHERS. The argument is whether on the money line )(too large) or the Puck Line (too risky). Perhaps, a multi-team, round-robin parlay is the play.

San Jose at Minnesota NHL Pick Prediction 4/17/2022

Sharks: There is no one to recall from the San Jose farm club, located across the hall next to the Sharks’ own locker room. The San Jose (AHL) barracuda ranks among the poorest clubs in the league, so there is barely anyone to look at.

My question: will the VP for hockey operations get fired, never mind the GM, the Director of Scouting, etc.

Only the broadcast teams — television and radio — should remain. All five members of the crew give great information and are a joy to listen to.

Wild: Well, well, well. Minnesota is hot. St. Louis is hot. So Saturday’s blowout by the Blues was a real wake-up call for the Wild.

Sure, Minnesota was down 5-1 and forced overtime to get a point, but otherwise, the Blues handed them their lunch.

Shockingly, it was the ninth time this season that Minnesota has allowed six or more goals (0-9-0, duh!), which may be an indication the Wild spent way too much money to acquire Marc-Andre Fleury, the expected starter against San Jose.

Prediction: Here’s a Prop play I like: Take Fleury to post a shutout at +900. If nothing else, take the Sharks’ score Under 2.5 (-110), where available.

As for the side, since Minnesota will be at “minus 10 dollars,” it’s the WILD on a robin-robin parley for me.

St. Louis at Nashville NHL Pick Prediction 4/17/2022

Overview: A huge Central Division contest with HUGE postseason implications.

St. Louis took care of business for the first 40 minutes against Minnesota, then survived in overtime after starting to think about the Predators during the second intermission — and they can deny it all they want; that was a joke of a post-game press conference.

Meanwhile, Nashville was in look-ahead mode by barely slipping past Chicago, 4-3.

The Blues’ hot-hot-hot Over streak is now 17-3 in L20, with St. Louis goalies Ville Husso and Jordan Binnington playing the role of 1980s Grant Fuhr of Edmonton facing a cavalry charge of odd-man rushes to defend.

Apparently, the Blues don’t care… as long as they’re winning.

Prediction: Just stay with basics, bet the OVER, and enjoy watching the shootout (regulation time and after 60 minutes).

Buffalo at Philadelphia NHL Pick Prediction 4/17/2022

Sabres: Whether it’s winning or losing the front games, the Sabres have a pretty good success (or unsuccess) recording the second game of a home-and-home series.’

If it continues, after Buffalo won 4-3 Saturday in western New York, they are due to drop this one to the floundering Flyers.

Flyers: Hold it! The Philadelphia success rate in the back end of B2B series is a perfect zero percent. Okay, it’s only one game, but it was lowly Detroit, so make of it what you will.

:What do I know? The Flyers have dropped four straight, five of six, and 8-of-10.

How serious is Philadelphia management about winning? They just gave the agent to captain Claude Giroux permission to speak to other teams!

That should take the air out of “the room.”

Prediction: Let’s go against the statistics for Normal teams and select the SABRES to sweep the home-and-home.

NY Islanders at Toronto NHL Pick Prediction 4/17/2022

Isles: Long Island (and Florida) were the lone clubs to not play Saturday in the National League, while Toronto

Maple Leafs: Toronto is playing like dirt. Sure, they’ve won 5-of-5, but barely.

Included was a loss in Buffalo where they never came close to competing. Then they escape charges by non-playoff squads like Montreal and Ottawa.

And now here come the Fishermen, a club which isn’t feeling great, both on and off the ice.

Over the weekend, Hall of Fame forward Mike Bossy passed away.

For you youngsters, Bossy captained four straight Stanley Cup champion teams for the Islanders.

The forward was a winner of: Calder Trophy as top rookie in 1977-78, Con Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 1982. Scored 573 goals in just 10 seasons, the highest GPG in NHL history. Added 85 goals in 129 playoff games. Nine straight 50-goal seasons.

Prediction: Toronto fans will give Bossy’s memory a huge ovation. Then they will sit on their hands after their Leafs get their lunch handed to them by the…ISLANDERS.
