Arizona at Calgary NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Coyotes: Arizona can extend its streak of scoring two goals or fewer in regulation to 8 games (once in 15) but remaining passive in a MAJOR bounce-back spot for the Flames.
The last time the Coyotes defeated the team with a record of .500 or above was more than a month ago, that wild 5-4 overtime victory in Toronto on Mar.1
Flames: It’s already inside “the room” on the bulletin board: “VGK 6, Us 1”
Prediction: Arizona gave virtually no effort in getting sapped in Vancouver, .7-1, to open this short road trip. They have thrown in the towel; Calgary is wiping its brow after taking a near knockout punch… FLAMES, Yes,on the Puck Line.
Minnesota at St. Louis NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Wild: Minnesota scored just its second short-handed goal to win in Dallas on Thursday, eventually winning in overtime, 3-2. This was our Under play of the week.
The contest is played like a Stanley Cup game with the defense taking center stage.
The Wild has points in 17-of-19 games, including an OT loss in St. Louis two weeks ago — is recent revenge a factor between really motivated teams?
Blues: St. Louis has won seven straight and points in 10 straight (9-0-1 SU, -1 ATS). That makes this clash of winners one of the longest clashes of long win streaks in the National League this century!
The Blues scoring is off the charts. Scoring three or more goals in13-of-last 14. They lead the league with 11 skaters with 20 or more goals — one better than Florida!
Prediction: When Wild goalie Marc-Andre Fleury “stood on his head” to defeat Dallas, the rotation calls for the return of Cam Talbot. Because I prefer the Wild goalie and the betting line shows Minnesota at (slightly) plus-money, I lean towards the value play and will take the… WILD.
Toronto at Ottawa NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Maple Leafs: The latest Toronto injury is defenseman Jake Muzzin, joining Wayne Simmonds (concussion) on the shelf.
The realignment on the blue line finds Wiliam Nykander helping guide Pierre Engvall, but now the other pairs may be slightly deficient.
So, do the Leafs play to protect themselves so they are healthy for the playoffs. If so, this could be an opening for Ottawa, especially on home ice.
Senators: Ottawa just defeated Boston, giving the Sens a 5-3 SU mark in L8.in a physical game, so it’s obvious Ottawa will go after you — unlike the start of the season.
Prediction: Located very close to each other, Ottawa knows all too well about how the Leafs haven’t skated past the first round of the playoffs in more than a decade, so if they can play with more pride, this is my Upset Special. Take the SENATORS.
Note: Should Ottawa gain the upset victory, start fading the TML (the “Toronto Meat Loaf”).
Philadelphia at Buffalo NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Flyers: Philadelphia, once some national sports-talk radio programs declared them the worst team in hockey, heard about it and came through with a couple of wins.
Since then, the Flyers have gone 2-8 SU/ATS, with one win coming in a shootout over the NY Rangers is a poor scheduling situation for the Blue Shirts.
The current losing streak is three, including a 4-0 revenge win by NYR, while this game marks the first of 5-of-7 on the road.
Sabres: Since the start of February, Buffalo has posted a 9-6-3 SU (9-9 ATS) record. How many “bad” clubs can say that?
In the last two weeks, they upset Carolina, then lost three, then shocked Toronto before falling to St. Louis last time out (no disgrace).
Prediction: HockeyReference.com gives the Flyers a 41 percent chance for a win. My numbers say 22 percent. Thus, it’s the SABRES at -145 and maybe even a Puck Line play on playing (in the) Buff.
Winnipeg at Tampa Bay NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Jets: Winnipeg has been more of a disappointment to themselves than to bettors. If they simply look in the mirror, they are just a touch short in so many categories, which makes them a scary opponent come playoff time — but the Jets won’t be making the playoffs.
For them to advance, mathematically speaking, Winnipeg must sweep this 2-game swing to South Florida. However, the extended trip also heads to MSG and Carolina.
In other words, local Winnipeg hockey talk is not about the Jets, it’s all about the AHL Manitoba Moose.
Go Moose!
Panthers: Florida is battling Carolina for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Even if Winnipeg could force overtime, Florida’s record in the extra session in 3-on-3 hockey is 5-7, so betting a regulation tie at +300 offers better odds than taking the Jets straight up.
Prediction: The Jets last win against a club above .500 was Vegas when the Go”Knights had SEVEN players on the injury list. The talk on Winnipeg radio is all Morse and not Jets. They should know… the PANTHERS.
Washington at Montreal NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Overview: The Canadiens welcomes the return of future Hall of Fame goalie Carey Price on Friday, yet it’s NY Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin which posted the shutout with a 440save effort — what give, Montreal?
Capitals: Lucked into the second wild card slot — they’ve been there since the calendar turned — D.C. is looking for two things: straighten its defense and allow Alex Ovechkin to score 50 goals.
Ovechkin, standing at 46 goals, has 8 games remaining to collect four more goals, so a good “prop” play is the Over on the Great 8″ getting more than 2.5 or 3.5 shots.
Long-term, the Caps could be a food Under team in the playoffs. Why? The assists leader is a defensemen in John Carlson (51). When a blue-liner has this muck puck control, it’s either based on slow-down play or Carlson is dominant on the power play.
This is in stark contrast to the Caps’ regular season, which is currently on a 17-1-1 Over streak.
Washington had won four straight until falling in Toronto, which came as a surprise because D.C. had been 6-0-1 SU (6-1 ATS) on the road.
Canadiens: With Carey back from his first knee injury, and second, a substance abuse issue, Jake Allen can take his time in returning. Thus, look for Sam Montembeault to be in goal against D.C.
The Habs are 2-6-1 SU (2-8 ATS), so they just may be ready for the golf course. They’ve also been out-scored, 11-5, in a pair of setbacks to D.C. this season.
It would be nice for 22-year old centre Nick Suzuki to record his 20th goal; he leads the club with just 19, so a “prop” of “will he score?” at+350 is interesting.
Prediction: Washington is really good on the road since there is no pressure on them. Montreal can be good on the road, also with no pressure, but they are less talented. And since the Habs couldn’t stand up to the Isles on the night Carey Price returns, what do you think they’ll do here… CAPITALS.
Chicago at Nashville NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Overview: Did you ever notice how the NBA doesn’t play on the Monday of the NCAA Final Four? And there might be dome NHL and NBA games played prior to the NFL Super Bowl?
And, of course, the NBA plays five games on Christmas, while the NHL shuts down for 2-3 days?
Well, give it up to the NHL schedule-maker for not doing the same thing for this weekend’s introduction of USFL 2.0, The newest spring football league has eight teams all “resurrecting” — get it, Easter is Sunday for you Christians and Catholics — the nicknames and cities of the original USFL, except all of the games will be held in nearly Birmingham, Ala., less than 200 miles away.
You think finding 32 quarterbacks to play in the NFL is difficult, who do you think will be behind center here?
Which will the fans choose? LOL
Blackhawks: Wow! Chicago tipped San Jose in a shootout to end an 8-game losing streak. This allowed me to win a side bet with a friend on whether the Hawks would match or better Anaheim’s 11-game losing streak — but only for pizza money.
Chicago’s loss streak included consecutive losses on home ice to: Seattle and Arizona! Holy (bleep)!
Predators Prediction: The Predators are playing for a playoff berth; Chicago is playing for, well, actually I am not sure. This is one of the few situations where I would recommend the Puck Line on the PREDATORS.
Columbus at Los Angeles NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Blue Jackets: In an incredible ratio, right wing Jakub Voracek only has five goals all season, yet he owns 49 assists — nearly a 10:1 ratio!
Local media admits the season is done: “For the past two weeks, much of the excitement around the Blue Jackets has centered on the debuts of young players.”
The preview continued, “Carson Meyer taking the ice for the first time was cause for celebration for the Columbus hockey community, given the fact he grew up in Powell, Ohio, and attended Ohio State, becoming the fourth Central Ohio native to play for the team he grew up rooting for. “
News you can bet on?
Kings: It’s the home-ice return of Dustin Brown, a Mark Messier Trophy winner from a decade ago and a member of both L.A. Stanley Cup titles teams.
Brown Was great from his first shift in Chicago, then the entire roster faltered in Colorado — there was a throw-away game.
Overview: LA. is playing for its playoff lives. However, Columbus always seems to have the Kings’ number and lead the recent series. Since this is a non-conference pairing, first look toward an overtime game (a regulation tie at +300), then take the KINGS on the money line (not the Puck Line),

Vegas at Edmonton NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Go’Knights: Technically speaking, when Vegas went nto Calgary two nights ago and handed Calgary its lunch, the Flames did once hold the lead 1-0, so VGK will be listed as a come-from-behind win.
That’s why one needs to look into the statistics and not just read them, one needs to investigate them.
As little as three weeks ago, when some clubs held 3-or-4 games in-hand on the Go’Knights, even Vegas media declared the team dead and will miss the playoffs for the first time in their f5-year existence.
But the unexpected win in Calgary, if added to another win here in Edmonton, will flip those opinions — but the smart bettors will already be on the Go’Knights — especially with the returns of all-star Mark Stone, the VGK captain.
Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson are also back; is VGK the deepest National League club when healthy (even over Colorado and Carolina — not Florida)?
In addition, Vegas is closer to third place in the Pacific Division than a wild card berth in the conference so VGK is closely watching the exploits in L.A.
Oilers: Does Edmonton really need to worry about Vegas or L.A. in order to second place? It might be closer than fans in Oil City could stand if Vegas wins here.
Edmonton looked great in blanking Nashville, 4-0, on Thursday, to end a mild 2-game losing streak which came following a 7-game win streak.
Because of the shutout, does Mike Smith return to defend the net, or will the regular rotation continue and No. 1 goalie Mikko Koskinen return?
Prediction: There are a few questions in Edmonton while Vegas is finding answers. So let’s go with the value play and take the (only slight) underdogs KNIGHTS at +105.
San Jose at Dallas NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Sharks: San Jose could recall players from its AHL affiliate located in the locker room next door in the same building, the Barracuda own the worst record in the AHL — there is no one to promote.
Thus, as a look-ahead to file in your hockey betting folder for next season, take the Seattle Kraken over the Sharks every time they meet.
The Sharks are 0-5-3 SU (9-8 ATS), but with three extra-stanza contests, so the only value buy of sorts, is to take a 60-minute draw at +290.
Stars: The morning following Dallas’ overtime loss to Minnesota, there were no complaints. Besides the actual loss, coaches were extremely pleased with the effort, the offense, the defense — everything, like it was a Stanley Cup contest.
Dallas is 10-3-2 SU (10-5) is L7, so they are legit playoff contenders — if they can advance.
Prediction: What do teams like Dallas do after a loss when you play to the best of your ability. They kick some a$$… STARS, Yes, on the Puck Line.
New Jersey at Seattle NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Devils: The Over streak may be coming to a conclusion.
Following a log of 19-5-1 run to the Over, New Jersey has had three of its last five end by a score of 3-1 — obviously, an Under.
However, the Devils’ stretch of Overs in the Third Period Only, is alive and well. This isn’t the exact number, but it’s around 21-2 or so over the past two months.
Also, having dropped nine straight on the road, NJD has won two of three away from The Rock, in Dallas and Arizona. This is the third game of a 5-game western swing.
Kraken: Seattle is 5-6 in L11 — how many other teams can say that? Despite the (barely) sub-.500 record, money-wise, you are still ahead.
NBow the Kraken are a rare favorite — with real expectations of victory.
Also, Seattle is an Under team, going 3-6-3 in L12, although there Krakens last game was an Over to Calgary.
Prediction: The book-maker is correct in making Seattle the favorite for the (number of fingers on one hand) time this season. But that means the real value is in New Jersey. Interesting.
Let’s keep it safe and play the OVER/THIRD PERIOD ONLY.
Detroit at NY Rangers NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Red Wings: For this game, forget about Detroit. It’s the look-ahead that is more interesting.
The next Red Wings game at the Pizza Palace is against Eastern Conference leading Florida, then they close with 5-of-6 on the road with the lone home game coming against lowly Philadelphia/
Thus, could the game with Florida be an Upset Special? As of today, no, but you never know!
Blue Shirts: With a chance to catch Carolina for first place in the MetroDivision, and on home ice, the winner was: oops, Carolina.
Since then, a possible letdown situation was avoided by blanking Philadelphia, so why not win here, too, against Detroit.
Meanwhile, Carolina gets shutout at home at -350-ish, thus the Rangers have another chance of climbing the hill by winning here and a Hurricanes loss.
Prediction: The Rangers are young enough not to be distracted in this situation… RANGERS on the Puck Line.
Pittsburgh at Boston NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Penguins: Sports-talk radio is catching up (by reading me) and noticing that Pittsburgh isn’t “stale” but intentionally not playing at 100 percent effort to get ready for the playoffs.
Similar to a month ago, when “the media” declared Philadelphia as the worst team in the National League, maybe the contrary play is to take the Penguins in an obviously slight underdog situation in Boston.
However, with the second-place Rangers and fourth-place Washington five points and head-and-behind Pittsburgh, they are getting closer to being locked into the third-place spot and not owning the home-ice advantage in the first playoff round.
Damn, this can get complicated!
Bruins: With a loss here, Boston can fall five points behind Tampa Bay and be stuck as a wild card candidate for either Florida and Carolina.
That sounds like a touch more motivation, but will it be enough?
The Bruins might be facing, losing three straight and 4–of-5, onLy defeating Tampa Bay in overtime.
Prediction: The Pens won the first meeting, 4-2, so this will be one of two meetings over the next 10 days. The better play is to wait and play the loser of this contest in five days in Steel City.. If you force me to play this game, give me the value pick against the team Not on a losing streak, the… PENGUINS
Carolina at Colorado NHL Pick Prediction 4/16/2022
Hurricanes: Welcome top the Game of the Day in a possible Stanley Cup Final preview.
Carolina has the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference wrapped up, unsightly to catch Florida and unlikely to fall to second place.
It would be nice for right wing Mikko Rantanen to reach 100 points, but at 12 down with 8 games to go, no one holding their breath unless a 3- or 4-point outing comes soon.
Goalie Frederik Andersen is 35-13-3 is rarely in discussions for the Vezina Trophy. However, in the teams previous meeting, it was Canes goalie Antti Raanta who recorded a 36-save shutout in a 2-0 Canes win.
And since Raleigh, N.C. — not Charlotte — isn’t the media capital of the state, nevermind the nation, few people are even aware that this group of Hurricanes has some punch — which could be advantageous to the bettor come layoff time.
Avalanche: Colorado goalie Darcy Kuemper is 35-9-3 yet is rarely in discussion for the Vezina Trophy.
When it comes to goal scoring, both clubs have their most success in the third period. Colorado has 107 third period goals this season, the most in the league, while Carolina has 95, tied for fifth..
Prediction: A lean towards the HURRICANES, which is also their slight value play. A better play may be the UNDER, despite how both clubs can light the lamp in the third period – those goals are mostly empty-netters or against lesser teams.
