On Saturday night, Cincinnati couldn’t get much going against Kyle Wright and the Atlanta bullpen, managing only three hits while being shut out 2-0. Wright mowed down the batting order with ease, tossing only 76 pitches in six innings.

Greene is ranked 22nd among MLB’s best prospects. In 2021, he excelled at the AA level, with a 1.98 ERA and 1.00 WHIP to go along with a 2.35 FIP and a 13.17 K/9 rate that made him even more appealing.

After only seven starts, he was moved to AAA, where his ERA rose to 4.13, but he continued to strike hitters out at a rate of 10.88 K/9.

Atlanta didn’t come up with much offense, either, with Victor Guitierez pitching 4.1 innings in his 2022 debut. All Atlanta needed was an RBI double from Marcel Ozuna and a sacrifice fly from Ozzie Albies, and that was it.

Kyle Wright pitched six innings, striking out six Reds while allowing only two hits and a walk. Atlanta’s strong bullpen pitched the final 3 innings while surrendering only one hit, and the Braves took a 2-1 lead in the series after bouncing back from their Opening Day setback.

In Atlanta’s fourth game, Ian Anderson gets the start, another talented young pitcher picked and groomed within the organization.

Anderson made his major league debut towards the end of 2020, throwing to a 1.95 ERA with a big club 11.41 K/9 rate in six outings.

In 2021, he slowed down a bit, but was still a valuable cog in the Atlanta rotation, with a 3.58 ERA, 8.70 K/9 rates, and 1.23 WHIP. Anderson, 23, has plenty of opportunity for growth and already has plenty of experience, including two deep postseason campaigns, under his credit.

It’s always tempting to back a bright young talent like Greene, especially when he’s a huge underdog, but Atlanta is a much better club, and they have their brilliant young gun on the mound with lots of quality innings under his belt as well as plenty of raw stuff.

Cincinnati had a.785 aggregate OPS versus RHP in 2021, but their offense is considerably weaker now that Jesse Winker is significantly contributing to those stats, and Anderson should be able to exploit their 23 percent K rate against RHP.

Due to their batter-friendly home field, Cincinnati’s offensive stats generally appear greater than they should. Atlanta’s offense won’t have to do much against Greene to win, and their .191 ISO against RHP in 2021, along with the inferior Cincinnati bullpen that will relieve Greene, will give them the win.
