Arizona at Chicago NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Coyotes: You’re the home team facing an opponent on an 11-game losing streak — and you’re the underdog.

At least the line-makers were telling you who was going to win after Anaheim visited the Valley of the Sun and punched the Coyotes in the face, 5-0.

If you thought Anaheim was unbeatable, what do you do with the Coyotes?

You got it — don’t bet on them.

Blackhawks: Is the Arizona situation bad or is Chicago’s even worse?

First, the Hawks blow a 3-goal lead on national television. Then they blow a 5-goal lead at home to Buffalo. Then they go on the road and get shutout in Florida, then embarrassed in Tampa Bay.

Now it’s an ugly with Arizona with a “look-ahead” with Seattle.

Prediction: The bleeding has to stop something when a pair of bottom-feeders meet. My selection is obvious: take the remote and turn the channel. PASS

Edmonton at Anaheim NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Oilers: What? The Ducks just snapped an 11-game losing streak, yet are in a virtual pick’em affair with Edmonton?.

As usual with both Alberta clubs, once you surpass 60 games on the schedule, their lack of depth catches up with them and they start sinking.

Sure, the Oilers are on a 3-game winning streak, but the wins came against lowly Arizona, in overtime with L.A. after blowing a 2-goal lead, then a shootout win in an ugly game with St. Louis (which rebounded to nip host Calgary on Saturday).

Goalie Mikko Koskinen has not looked sharp despite all of the hype — perhaps, the Islanders knew something when they traded away the then rookie after just four outings. Still, 6-1 SU/ATS is L7 starts is strong, but to see the holes in his current game may be to our advantage in betting against him.

Prediction: If Koskinen is out and/or Mike Smith is in the net, the grit of Anaheim might be motivating enough for me to make a small play on the,,, DUCKS

Dallas at Seattle NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Stars: Hey, boxing fans! Remember late in the career of Mulhammad Ali when he utilized a “rope-a-dope” system to defeat opponents? That’s the style of Dallas hockey. Take your time, avoid whirlwind hits, then slip in points from the inside to score goals.

Really, the Stars have been a dangerous playoff team over the last few years because they are hard to play against, once getting to a Stanley Cup Final before their strategy went bust.

Besides, Dallas is used to playing on really bad ice. In fact, they should’ve relocated this contest to Mexico for today’s Baja 1000 off-road race. Just avoid the cacti.

Kraken: Ignoring the unexpected expansion success of Vegas four years ago, Seattle is on the verge to achieve one of its preseason goals: not finish last in the conference, currently one point up on Arizona with the same number of games played.

Goalie Philipp Grubauer, a solid backup backstop in both Washington and Colorado, looked good in going 3-1 SU/ATS until two losses late in the week.

Prediction: Even though the Kraken always seem good for two goals per game, should Dallas control the game (as usual), the unexpected play is the… UNDER.

The Kraken currently stand one point ahead of

There is one thing that Seattle does quite consistently: score goals in the third period.

Detroit at Ottawa NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Red Wings: Since giving Carolina a wake-up call in an overtime upset win on Mar. 1, Detroit has gone 2-9-3 SU (2-12 ATS) ever since over the past month. Ugh!

And it doesn’t matter the style of game: low-scoring (2-1), medium-scoring (5-2 twice), or bug-uglies (11-2 to Pittsburgh).

I am declaring that the Wings are the first club to officially pack it in and are ready for the golf course.

Senators: It’s the complete opposite in Canada’s capital city, where the Sens are playing tough despite a recent 2-3-1 SU (2-4 ATS) stretch.

Two lines are scoring, a young defense is hitting and defending.

Prediction I won’t waste time: SENATORS.

Vegas at Vancouver NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Golden Knights: That 7-same road losing streak is over since a number of injured players have returned. And with the move of Chandler Stephenson to the first line, Vegas is playing with just 11 forwards and seven defensemen, rotating one of the Top 6 blue-lines out so average minutes are fairly even.

Playing as many as four more games than some of the clubs they are in contention with for either third place in the Pacific or one of the top wild card berths, basically, the Knights need to sweep the balance of the season schedule, especially against second-division clubs like the Vanc.

Canucks: Goalie Thatcher Demko has faced Vegas just twice, allowing eight goals in just 105 minutes. The save percentage is something horrible around 86 percent — only Colorado and Anaheim (really, the Ducks?) light him up more — Ouch!

There is also team motivation. Vegas owns the second wild card spot for the moment, and with games in-hand, Vancouver has a reasonable mathematical chance for catching the VGK. Now catching Dallas is far less likely, but considering the Canucks’ start to the season, to surpass Vegas would be a major accomplishment.

The Canucks were 2-0-2 SU (4-0 ATS) until St. Louis posted a sweep earlier in the week.

Prediction: This is a tricky win. Vegas plays well in a desperado situation, but so has Vancouver since Bruce Boudreau (24-13-7 SU) took over as head coach. Vegas is the fav, which means the Vanc is the value, but I still prefer the… GOLDEN KNIGHTS (but NOT on the Puck Line).

Florida at Buffalo NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Sabres: Sorry. I did not know the last Buffalo home game honored Rick Jeanneret, the retiring play-by-play radio announcer for 51 seasons for the Sabres. The game featured the club’s first sell-out crowd of the season, as Buffalo upset Nashville, 4-2 (I gave out the Preds).

Now, Buffalo can climb over Detroit for fifth place in the Atlantic Division, which would be a nice feat for such a morbid franchise over the past decade.

The Sabres have points in their last 8 games, going 5-0-3 SU (8-0 ATS), with 6-of-8 going beyond regulation time — that’s a ton of 1-goal games.

Panthers: Considering that Florida is in first place, it comes to no surprise that the Panthers whipped Buffalo in two early meetings, 7-4 and 6-1.

The current 12-2-1 SU (12-3 ATS) run is tight and their makings of a club ready for the postseason., with Saturday’s goal-fest against New Jersey quite predictable — well,at least I had the Over.

Prediction: The play is on the Panthers, but on the money line of the puck line? Considering it’s Florida’s sixth game in nine days and with a look-ahead against Tronto, although that is a good set-up to play the hosts, I will still take the PANTHERS on the MONEY LINE.

NY Islanders at New Jersey NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Isles: What a perfect set-up… against Long Island!

After going to MSG to shut out the Rangers, they NYI head to The Rock to meet an unhappy bunch of New Jersey Devils (see below), so this one has upset written all over it..

The Islanders are 7-3 SU/ATS in L10, yet it doesn’t seem to matter who is in goal. In the blanking of the Blue Shirts, back up Semyon Varlamov — he is so old, he was born in the Soviet Union, not Russia — made all the saves to run his personal win streak to three.

Meanwhile, No. 1 goalie Ilya Sorokin is getting a few more days off here and there, especially after last week’s loss to Philadelphia.

Devils: Unhappy New Jersey had their big end-of-the-season on the tip of their blades, then blew a 4-goal lead in falling to Florida.

One local newspaper claimed the loss capped “one of the worst weeks in franchise history when it comes to the regular season” and blamed head coach Lindy Ruff. However, the publication always blames the coach, so just ignore the hype.

Prediction: The devils fell to the Rangers; the Rangers fell to the Islanders so the Isles must, obviously (?) fall to the… DEVILS on a small-play wager.

Philadelphia at NY Rangers NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Flyers: Have nothing to play for and no one wants to play anymore, except for the nice paycheck.

RangersL Rebound time after a 4-0 loss to the Isles, although they played well and hit the goal post at least four times (EPNS Radio of NYC had 4, NYI on Hofstra University Radio said five).

Prediction: There isn’t much to say here, so the radio guys are glad I’m not typing the pre-game notes. Find another game and parlay it with the… RANGERS.

Minnesota at Washington NHL Pick Prediction 4/3/2022

Wild: The Wild suffered at least two injuries on Thursday, but had time to call for call-ups. That would tell me they will play a touch more conservative than they already do on the road.

This should affect the penalty-jill, but okay — the Capitals have climbed to fifth on the power play since the All-Star Game.

However a counter number shows the Wild to be an amazing 12-0-2 SU/ATS against every team from the Metro Division this season — that’s 14 straight games with at least a point.

Capitals: With an eight-place finish in the Eastern Conference all-but-mathematically wrapped up, D.C. doesn’t have much to play for except for setting up shot attempts for Alex Ovechkin. So a nice prop to play is the “Great 8” at over 3.5 shots on goal at -120.

The Caps are (baseball-wise) four games behind Pittsburgh and Boston to avoid playing the No. 1 seedL either Carolina or Florida.

If they want to play spoiler and meet Florida, then this is a look-ahead game because Tampa Bay is on-deck.

Prediction: It’s funny how these late-season, East-West games always seem to play into overtime, giving both sides at least a point. We called on Minnesota-Pittsburgh to go beyond 60 minutes, and we had a nice +300 winner. The same goes here. Although we give a slight edge to Minnesota, playing a REGULATION TIE at _290 at least should call for an exciting game.
