Houston Astros vs St Louis Cardinals 3/18/2022 Picks Predictions Previews

The Houston Astros will go against the St. Louis Cardinals in MLB action in Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium Jupiter, FL, on Friday, March 18, 2022, at 1:05 PM ET. Before the start of the lockout, the Astros were able to solve one of their main needs by re-signing star pitcher

Justin Verlander to a one-year deal with a 2023 option, solidifying a rotation that included Lance McCullers Jr. and Framber Valdez. Houston still needs to complete its roster before the beginning of this season.

Before the commencement of the lockout, the Astros made two moves, signing veteran reliever Héctor Neris to a two-year, $17 million deal in November and re-signing Verlander for 2022 on a one-year, $25 million deal (with a $25 million option for 2023).

Verlander, 38, was sidelined for the entire 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John’s surgery on Sept. 30, 2020. Verlander injured his right forearm on the Opening Day of the pandemic-shortened ’20 season.

He spent the rest of the summer rehabbing the injury before suffering a setback late in the regular season, just as he was about to return to the game.

Graveman and Yimi Garca, two relief pitchers who were acquired by the Astros at the Trade Deadline last year, signed with other organizations. Graveman joined the White Sox, while Garca joined the Blue Jays. Brooks Raley, a left-handed specialist, was traded to the Rays. Zack Greinke, the starting pitcher, is still unsigned.

  • The total went Over in 5-0 of the Astros’ last 5 road matches with the total set at 11.0 or higher.
  • The total went Over in 7-1 of the Astros’ last 8 matches as an underdog.
  • The total went Under in 5-1-1 of the Astros’ last 7 matches overall.

Houston Astros vs St Louis Cardinals Predictions 3/18/2022

The Cardinals took their time making a major move, but when they did, it was a big one. On Nov. 29, the club acquired starter Steven Matz, a much-needed left-handed pitcher who found his footing in recent years. He’ll likely be the No. 3 or 4 starter in a rotation that includes Adam Wainwright, Jack Flaherty, Dakota Hudson, Miles Mikolas, and a slew of other names vying for a spot in the rotation.

Early in the offseason, the Cardinals re-signed lefty T.J. McFarland, and later in the regular season, they inked Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright to one-year contracts for 2022.

Former Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber, as well as Joc Pederson, could be intriguing fits after their disastrous 2021 season. Otherwise, upgrades may have to be kept to a minimum.

  • The total went Under in 4-0 of the Cardinals’ last 4 interleague matches as a favorite.
  • The total went Over in 7-0 of the Cardinals’ last 7 matches with the total set at 9.0-10.5.
  • The Cardinals are 4-0 in their last 4 Friday matches.

Houston Astros vs St. Louis Cardinals. The MLB pick for this game is the Houston Astros. If the Astros are unable to find a good free agency outfielder, they may look to trade for a player of superior level. That means they’d have to part with one of their young starters such as Framber Valdez, José Urquidy, or Cristian Javier, but the return would have to blow them away.

St. Louis would benefit from adding another bat to their lineup, perhaps a left-handed power bat. With the addition of the designated hitter in the new CBA, a slew of new possibilities emerge. The Houston Astros will win to a predicted score of 7-5.
