The Texas State Bobcats (21-7) will collide with the North Texas Mean Green (24-6) in the College Basketball National Invitation Tournament- First Round at UNT Coliseum in Denton on Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET.


Texas State ended its regular season with an overall record of 21-7 but lost their SBC quarterfinal round to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (72-79) on March 5.


The Bobcats ended the regular season with nine consecutive wins including their five-point triumph over Troy in the end-game on February 25 but unluckily snapped the streak with a seven-point loss to Louisiana-Lafayette. Texas State topped all teams in the Sun Belt Conference with a 21-7 overall standing ending the regular season.


The Bobcats trailed a 25-31 lead by the Cajuns at the break and did not recover from there after scoring 47-48 in the final half of their 72-79 loss on March 5. Guard Mason Harrell nailed 18 points off the bench in leading Texas State while Forward Isiah Small grabbed 11 rebounds with 14 points for the Bobcats.    


Guard Caleb Asberry led Texas State in scoring with an average of 13.8 PPG while Guard Mason Harrell scored an average of 11.8 PPG as the next leading scorer and also dished out an average of 3.1 assists per outing.


Forward Isiah Small controlled the board for the Bobcats with an average of 7.2 rebounds per match. Texas State recorded an average scoring of 70.7 PPG with three players on double-figure average scoring on the season.

The North Texas Mean Green bowed to Louisiana Tech at 36-42 in the C-USA Championship match on Friday and joined the college basketball NIT challenge with an overall record of 24-6. The Mean Green closed the regular season with a 68-70 loss to UTEP but won the conference semi-final round versus Rice at 68-50 on March 10.


North Texas topped all teams at 16-2 in the Conference USA West Division with an overall standing at 24-6 and a home record at 12-2 on the year.


The Mean Green struggled after scoring just 13 points at the break while allowing the LA Tech Bulldogs to score 21 points in the first and second half of their championship ship resulting in their 36-42 defeat on March 11.


Forward Thomas Bell III scored 10 points with 8 boards in leading North Texas while Forward Abou Ousmane pulled down 10 rebounds.


Guard Tylor Perry carried the offense for North Texas with an average scoring of 13.6 PPG and in assists with an average of 2.5 per match while Forward Thomas Bell III chipped in with an average scoring of 12.6 PPG and grabbed an average of 6.9 rebounds per contest. The Mean Green posted an average of 64.9 PPG with four players on double-figure average scoring.
