Yale heads to the big dance on Sunday after the team dispatched Penn in their conference semi-final round on Saturday with an overall record of 18-11 on the season.

 

The Bulldogs played basketball a little bit sluggish last December but the Yale Bulldogs recovered and lost just three outings this year with the recent 6-point loss to Cornell but beat down Brown and the Penn Quakers to earn their ticket to the conference championship on Sunday.

In their semi-final round duel against Penn, the Bulldogs managed to take a three-point advantage in finishing first half of the match and never look back from there after gaining a 35-32 lead in the second half on the way to their 67-61 victory. Guard Azar Swain carried his team to the finals after nailing 25 points with two rebounds for Yale.  

 

This season, Guard Azar Swain played well with an average scoring of 18.9 PPG in shooting 41.3% from the floor and 89.4% from the charity stripe while Forward Isaiah Kelly led the Bulldogs in rebounding with an average of 4.2 rebounds per match.

The Princeton Tigers hobbled their way in the regular season but tried hard to get back on the winning track and succeeded in taking down eight teams in a row on their way to the conference finals.

 

The Tigers sealed the regular season with a 93-73 win over the Penn Quakers and eliminated the Cornell Big Red at 77-73 in cruising to the Ivy League Conference Championship. Princeton topped all teams at 12-2 in the Ivy League Conference with an overall record of 23-5 and a road record at 8-3 on the year.

 

In dispatching Cornell in the semi-final round, the Tigers left the Big Red behind by a five-point lead at the break however, Princeton allowed a 37-38 score in the final half but still won the game at 77-73 to snatch the championship slot on Sunday. Jaelin Llewellyn led the Tigers with 23 points while Tosan Evbuomwan chipped in 21 for Princeton.

 

On the season, Forward Tosan Evbuomwan led the scoring for the Tigers with an average of 15.4 PPG in shooting for 53.2% from the field and 56.9% from the foul line while Guard Ethan Wright led the rebounding with an average of 7.1 RPG.

 

Evbuomwan also played a team-high 5.0 APG after 29.2 minutes per game of hard court action. Princeton recorded an average of 80.6 PPG on 49.0% FG and held their opponents to an average scoring of 69.4 PPG.
