Charleston underperformed Under new coach Pat Kelsey, who had a lot of success at Winthrop. The Cougars, ranked 183 in KenPom, had some success in non-conference play, defeating Tulane, ODU, and Chattanooga, as well as holding North Carolina (94-83) to a close game at home. However, they have only one conference win, a four-point victory against Elon on Jan. 9 as a 10-point underdog.

Despite Reyne Smith’s 21 points and Dimitrius Underwood’s 18 points and seven rebounds (but six mistakes), the Dukes couldn’t overcome Vado Morse’s career-high 32 points.

Guard John Meeks contributed 17 points, including a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer (the line was JMU -3). To make matters worse, the Cougars turned the ball over 20 times and committed 20 turnovers. They also enabled JMU to shoot 50% from the field and 8-of-22 (36%) from beyond the arc.
