West Virginia is 2-2 in Big 12 play after an 11-1 non-conference schedule that included a win against then-No. 15 UConn. After defeating K-State and Oklahoma State at WVU Coliseum, Bob Huggins’ scrappy team still has one of the best home records in the country.

The Mountaineers had two conference defeats, both against highly-rated Kansas and Texas. WVU’s three losses in 2021-22 all came against top-25 opponents. West Virginia is better than the No. 43 national Net Ranking.

The Mountaineers have a 2-1 record against quad 1 opponents and are unbeaten in all other quadrants. WVU is also undefeated at home, where they restrict offense as well as any D-I team. West Virginia isn’t the club any team wants to see when they’re in a reported rut. They’re an offensively labored, defensive boogeyman.

The Mountaineers scored 69 points per game while giving up 62.8. These figures demonstrate Bob Huggins’ cautious, defensive stance. West Virginia’s offensive marks don’t appear to be very good. Despite this, all of their defensive and hustling metrics are excellent.

While I don’t see WVU putting up points against Baylor, it’s difficult to trust BU’s offensive prowess against another strong defensive club, especially if Akinjo is absent.

My compromise is to take Baylor cautiously on Tuesday to find enough rhythm to cover against a poor-shooting West Virginia team that struggles against elite competition. Remember, Baylor came close to escaping a big early deficit against K-State. The Bears will establish just enough separation for the ATS victory to a predicted score of 71-57.
