The Georgia Southern Eagles (3-8) will duel against the Appalachian State Mountaineers (9-2) in week 13 of the Sun Belt college football competition at Kidd Brewer Stadium in Boone on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 2:30 PM ET.


Georgia Southern badly needs a win here after losing five of their last six contests including a 17-34 loss to 13th ranked BYU last time out. The Eagles won only one of their last five outings played on the road this season.


Georgia Southern dropped to 5th place at 2-5 in Group A of the Sun Belt Conference with a 3-8 overall standing this season. The Eagles fell behind the Cougars at 17-20 in the first half while being held scoreless in the second half to the eventual 17-34 defeat.


Georgia Southern earned 268 yards with 122 passing and 146 rushing yards while their defense gave up 507 total yards. Georgia Southern nailed 19 first downs while finishing 52 total plays on 5.2 yards per play.        


QB Connor Cigelske completed 11 of his 14 passes for 122 yards with no TDs but had a pick in the loss. RB Logan Wright rushed for 50 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns while leading the receiving group for 43 yards on 5 grabs in the losing effort.


Safety Anthony Wilson led the Eagles’ defensive line with 8 solos and one assisted tackle while CBs Deonta Bembry and Darrell Baker Jr. contributed 5 solo tackles each in reinforcing the backfield.

Georgia Southern Eagles vs Appalachian State Mountaineers Predictions 11/27/2021


The Appalachian State Mountaineers recently lost to Troy in their recent meeting. The Mountaineers won five games in a row this season. Appalachian State took the lead at 6-1 in Group A of the Sun Belt Conference with a 9-2 overall standing while winning all five games played at home on the year.


The Mountaineers managed to shut down the offense of the Trojans leaving them scoreless in three consecutive quarters resulting in a 45-7 victory on November 20.


Appalachian State outgained Troy at 445 to 142 yards of total offense, dominating both the passing offense with 212 yards and the rushing offense at 233 yards on 5.6 yards per play. The Mountaineers completed 79 total plays with 27 first downs, 43% 3rd down, and 80% 4th down efficiency in the winning effort. 


QB Chase Brice dominated the offense through the air with 212 passing yards and scored a nice three touchdowns but intercepted twice in the win.


On ground offense, Nate Noel ran for 102 yards on 15 carries and landed one touchdown while Thomas Hennigan had seven receptions for 85 receiving yards and nailed a touchdown. On defense, T.D. Roof controlled the backfield for Appalachian State with 4 tackles, a sack, and one interception in the victory.
