Miami has good experience and a strong backcourt. UCF returns all five starters from last year. They were a losing team finishing at 11-12 and 8-10 in the AAC. Where UCF falls short he will be inside. Hurricanes come off a ten point win to Canisius in the opener with effective scoring and defending inside. Knights in their win against Robert Morris struggled on the defensive glass and with three point shooting. UCF’s struggles last year came with inside scoring, defensive rebounding and turnovers. Detroit Mercy at Toledo—The Rockets third rankedthree point shooting team from last year didn’t miss a beat as they converted 40% in their 69-61 win against Valparaiso. USC at Temple—The Owls are a young team. Last year the roster was full of sophomores and freshman and the team finished at 5-11 overall and 4-10 in the AAC conference. They lose two starters from last year and a key reserve. Shooting was a major issue for the Owls inside. Shooting inside is a strength of this USC team. Trojans have experience returning and has Boogie Ellis a transfer from Memphis who finished sixth man of the year for the AAC. In their 40 point win to Cal St Northridge the Trojans were dominant inside on both ends of the court. Play USC -6.5.

Texas at Gonzaga—The Bulldogs have to replace three starters from last year’s team that contributed 45 points per game. Two were first round early NBA draft picks. They also lose a key assistant coach. Head coach Chris Beard comes to Texas after building Texas Tech to a strong contender. He played at Texas. Smart at Texas built a strong defensive culture but struggled making shots. Beard a great reputation in college basketball was able to bring in quality players by way of transfer. Gonzaga did not cover in their opening win against Dixie St behind poor three point shooting. Texas pounded Houston Baptist hitting 56.5% from three and strong scoring inside. Play Texas +7.5.
