Kansas vs. Michigan St—Kansas returns four starters and good depth from last season. Though they will be without starter Jalen Wilson to suspension. Wilson struck with COVID missed many games at the end of the season and slumped in the conference season. Kansas won nine of their final eleven games after being eliminated in the NCAA Tournament by USC. Defense was great in conference from two and three point distance. Michigan St returns two starters back from a 15-13 team that finished 9-11 in the Big Ten. Spartans lost eight of their past nine games played away from home counting the neutral sites. Spartans were 13th in the Big Ten last year from three and 12th in scoring inside. Tall task for them here. Play Kansas -4.5.

Kentucky at Duke—Kentucky returns one starter from last year. Different approach this season for the school as they go the transfer portal to reload as the competition for freshman starters is too great to stock a new team every season. Wildcats finished 9-16 and 8-9 in the SEC missing the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky ranked at the bottom of the SEC in two point shooting last year. Duke finished at 13-11 and 9-9 in the ACC. Blue Devils return three starters plus depth from last year. They were second in the ACC in offensive efficiency and missed an NCAA Tournament because of a positive COVID test. Last year’s team was inexperience but preparation is better for this season. Coach K wants to go out on top and will push this program hard in his final year. Play Duke -1.

UC Riverside at San Diego St—UC Riverside was the most improved team in the Big West last year. They bring back three starters but have many returning reserves from last year. Highlanders have depth. Riverside was 39th in the nation from three last year hitting on 37.1%. In conference they were among the leaders in offensive and defensive efficiency. San Diego St brings back two starters from last year. Aztecs lost a lot of scoring from last year. They did struggle with two point shooting against the Mountain West last year. Aztecs had an early exit from the NCAA Tournament against Syracuse. It will take time for San Diego St to sort things out with last year’s reserves and new transfers. Play UC Riverside +13.5.
