Charlotte earned their 2-0 start this season after beating the Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs in their week 2 battle at 38-10 on Saturday. The 49ers also defeated the Duke Blue Devils at 31-28 in the season opener last September 3, 2021. The Charlotte 49ers took 2nd place in the Conference USA East Division with a 2-0 overall standing after winning their first two home games this season. In their victory over Gardner-Webb, Charlotte controlled the game with their superior running game for 306 yards with 168 passing yards for 6.7 yards per play after completing 71 total plays. The 49ers marked the first down at 24 with 7/13 3rd down and ½ 4th down efficiency in the victory.

The winless Georgia State will host the week 3 showdown after losing their first two outings. The Panthers bowed to the Army in the opener at 10-43 and gave up their 2nd-week encounter with the 21st ranked North Carolina Tar Heels at 17-59, Saturday. The Panthers dropped to 5th place in the Sun Belt Conference Group A with a 0-2 standing after losing their first home and road matches. Georgia State had difficulty in passing for 90 yards but had a good running game for 181 yards with 3.6 yards per play after making 75 total plays. On defense, Jordan Veneziale stopped the ball with 5 solo and 5 assisted tackles while Blake Carroll added 1.5 sacks with 6 total tackles in reinforcing the backfield for Georgia State.
