The Norfolk State Spartans will go against the Toledo Rockets in NCAAF action in Glass Bowl, on Saturday, September 04, 2021, at 7:00 PM (EDT). The Spartans begin their season with two road matches against Football Bowl Subdivision rivals. The tournament was the first between the two schools and NSU’s third against a Mid-American Conference opponent overall, following meetings against Ohio (2012) and Buffalo (2014). With the exception of TE Drew Rosi, the offense was second in the MAC and placed 13th in the country last season, averaging 494 yards and 35 points a game. Starting with top target Isaiah Winstead – who totaled over 17 yards per reception with a team-high 25 catches – and lots of assistance around him, the receiving corps is among the finest in the MAC.

The defense was excellent, and it is about to improve. It had a couple of blunders and couldn’t hang on in a wild matchup against Western Michigan and a defeat to Ball State, but it ended second in the MAC with 24 points per game and 362 yards. All 11 starters are slated to return this week. Although the Rockets only have four interceptions, they have a good enough defensive backfield to do a lot better.
