Some may be selling SMU stock as a result of Shane Buechele’s departure, but I believe this is a mistake. Tanner Mordecai, a former Oklahoma quarterback, can lock down the position until four-star freshman Preston Stone is prepared to take over, and the mixture of the two offers Sonny Dykes and the offensive staff a rather high floor. SMU will be in the mix in most matches thanks to its outstanding power position rooms, and if the Mustangs improve their trench performance, they will push for a berth in the AAC title match.

The Mustangs have the potential to fight with every team in the conference except Cincinnati, and they’re counting on their new weapons, led by Mordecai at quarterback, to provide firepower. SMU is returning from its finest season since 1984 when they won ten games and were placed as high as 15th in the nation.
