Old Dominion vs. Wake Forest—College football free pick is Wake Forest -31. Old Dominion Monarchs did not play in 2020. Head coach Ricky Rahne figures to take his lumps in 2021. He has impressed pundits with his recruiting skills. This was a program that went 1-11 in 2019 with the offense averaging only 16.3 points and 274 yards. UCF transfer D.J. Mack expected starter but the UCF transfer completed only 53.4% of his passes in his time at the school. Wake Forest returns all starters on offense with nine to the defense. This is a good offensive team that will be able to run up the score behind sophomore quarterback Sam Hartman. This was an offense that put up 36 points and 444 yards per game facing all by one ACC school. Play Wake Forest -31.
Duke vs. Charlotte Pick Prediction 9/3/2021
Duke vs. Charlotte—Free pick is Duke Blue Devils -6. It was a down season for the Blue Devils in 2020 yet they were able to pound Charlotte at home last year 53-19 running for 274 yards on 34 carries. Blue Devils top three running backs return. Gunnar Holmberg gets the start at quarterback. He saw mop up duty for Chase Brice who was a turnover machine. Holmberg is a running style quarterback which could work against a bad 49ers defense. Charlotte returns only thirteen this season. Defense last year surrendered 420 yards with 214 rushing for 5.9 yards per rush. Quarterback Chris Reynolds returns but only completed 54.9% of his passes and their top two running backs exit. Front seven lacks experience for Charlotte and will get overpowered by the experienced Blue Devils offense line. Play Duke -6.
Michigan St vs. Northwestern Pick Prediction 9/3/2021
Michigan St vs. Northwestern—College football pick is Northwestern Wildcats -3. Transfer Anthony Russo is in the hunt to start at quarterback, but Russo was an interception machine at Temple. Also in the running in freshman Payton Thorne. This is a program that saw even greater decline in Mel Tucker’s first year at the school. The Spartans defense surrendered 35 points and 397 yards per game last year. Northwestern does lack experience but head coach Pat Fitzgerald returns for his 16th year at the school and provides more stability coaching wise in this matchup. Hunter Johnson was named starting quarterback winning the battle after not seeing the field in 2020. Fitzgerald has built a strong defense in his program over the years.
