They sit tied with Toronto at 4.5 back and one game back of Seattle who are 3.5 back. Yankees sit eight games back of Boston for the division. New York sits 46-43 on the campaign and are 23-27 facing winning teams. They have had issues at the plate ranking 20th in run production with 4.16 runs per game and 17th in team batting. Defensively the Yankees sit in the bottom half of the league. They have not had the injuries to their everyday lineup as we have seen in the past. Contact has been a major issue as sitting with strikeout rates at 25% or greater at Judge, Stanton, Voit, Sanchez and Frazier. Gardner is striking out 23.6% of the time and Urshela 24.8%. Their ace in the rotation Gerritt Cole has shown recent struggles. Jamison Taillon has an ERA approaching five, Jordan Montgomery is at 4.16 and Domingo German at 4.44. Corey Kluber who is expected back in August from a shoulder injury sat with a walk rate of 10.5%. Devi Garcia disappointed as was sent to the minors where he now sits with an ERA of 7.45 with walk rate of 16.2% in ten starts and one relief appearance. With the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Rays in the division it will be very difficult for the Yankees to make up ground needed to qualify for the postseason. They are hitting .227 against righthanders.
