They will now look to double their wins against a much easier Hungary side, who did actually look really competitive against Portugal. However, Hungary ended up losing badly and they will only hope for a better result here.
Hungary did a pretty solid job in containing Portugal in the first match, at least for the greater part of that match. They did also threaten the Portuguese with a couple of good looks, but they were unable to get past a very solid defense. It all looked like a draw, and Hungary would be more than OK with a draw, but Portugal made some crucial substitutions that really changed the course of the match. Midfielder Rafa Silva was a breath of fresh air for Portugal, who went on to score 3 goals in the final 10 minutes of the match, leaving Hungary high and dry after a not-so-bad performance. Hungary are now at the bottom of the group with no realistic chances to qualify. Unless they beat France and set this group on fire.

France did not have to play a very fancy match against Germany, and they didn’t, but they did get the job done. It was a nice parallel shot by Hernandez at the 20th minute that bounced on Germany’s Mats Hummels and ended up in Germany’s net. France did not create an awful lot of scoring chances in that match, they only had 4, but it was more than enough for 3 points. They played great defense against Germany’s pacey attack, and were only threatened by a single shot on target. France can now take the lead in this group with a win here, as Germany and Portugal battle it out in the other match of the group.
Hungary vs France. Things happened as expected in the group, with Hungary losing to Portugal and France proving that they are the favourites to win the EURO. Hungary were already with their backs against the wall, and now they can really feel the pressure. France are on their way for the second win in the group and a comfortable qualification to the next round. Take France with -1.5 here.
