Even so, they will try to upset Portugal just like they did in the 2016 EURO opener, where they took the lead three times and ended up holding them to a 3-3 draw. However, Portugal won both matches against Hungary in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers without even conceding a single goal.

Portugal are the reigning EURO Champions and they are coming into this tournament to defend their crown. Their most recent matches were quite solid, beating Azerbaijan and Luxembourg, and drawing against Serbia in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers. However, Portugal failed to sit at the top of their group in the two previous competitions, the Nations League and the 2020 EURO Qualifiers. In the Nations League they were very good (4 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw) but that loss allowed France to sit at the top of the group. In the 2020 EURO Qualifiers they also had a single loss (to Ukraine) that held them to the 2nd spot of the group. Portugal are coming here with all the big names, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota and a very competitive squad, led by a very experienced coach.

Hungary vs Portugal. Hungary are very unlucky to be drawn to this group along with Portugal, Germany and France. That leaves them with little to no chances to qualify, unless they pull some massive upsets. They will try to take this slow, just like Portugal, and there is a decent chance we will see very few goals here.
