2019 First Year Head Coaches Notable NFL ATS and Over Under Coaching Angles 4/11/2020

The NFL still have plans to get the season started on time and the draft kicks off things on the 2020 calendar on Thursday April 23rd. During these times we offer betting tips but once the leagues return it will be free picks as usual. Today a look at the notable first year NFL head coaching against the spread with over under angles from the 2019 season.

There were seven NFL head coaches making their first year appearance with their new team in the 2019 campaign. A small sample to go through each one individually but instead we look at the collected group of coaches and find some very strong against the spread over under betting angles in their initial season.

One head coach stood out greatly for good performance in his initial season. Green Bay Packers under head coach Matt LaFleur won 77.8% of his games by finishing 14-3 straight up. It was a big falloff to 7-9 with the Jets with Adam Gase, Broncos with Vic Fangio and Buccaneers with Arians. There was one very poor performance and that was Zac Taylor with the Cincinnati Bengals finishing at 2-14 a 12.5% win percentage. That was the worst record in the NFL last season.

Packers went 8-1 straight up at home which is 88.9% best in the NFL. Team won all six games against the division. Jets and Broncos were a respected 5-3 straight up at home a 62.5% win rate. Tampa Bay went 5-3 straight up on the road. Arizona a poor 1-5 against the division with Kliff Kingsbury as head coach. Bengals 0-7 straight up on the road and lost all three times as a favorite.

Green Bay covered 61.1% under LaFleur with 66.7% at home. Best first year head coach moneymaker in 2019 was Kliff Kingsbury with the Cardinals a 64.3% cover rate. Miami under Brian Flores and Arizona did cover 75% following a win. Arizona a strong 83.3% on the road. They covered 70% of the time outside the division. A good 69.2% as a dog. Packers did cover all three times after a defeat. Broncos under head coach Vic Fangio a 66.7% cover after a loss and 62.5% at home. Denver outside the division did cover 70% of the time. Tampa Bay burned money for bettors under Bruce Arians last season covering only 35.7%. No covers in seven home games. Bengals couldn’t cover three times as a favorite. Jets no covers in two games home favored. New York Jets and Bucs 33.3% in their conference.

Tampa Bay played to cover the total in 12 of their 16 games for 75%. They went over 87.5% following a loss. It is 77.8% as a dog and 83.3% against the NFC. Outside the division Green Bay over 66.7% of the time. They went over in both playoff games. Jets went 75% under at home. It was 80% as a favorite. Cincinnati as a road underdog went under 83.3% of the time. Both Denver and New York Jets under 66.7% against the AFC. All six games in the division for the Packers went under.
