Returning is point guard Payton Pritchard as is their shooting guard Anthony Mathis. In their last game in a blowout win to Boise St, Mathis had 30 points on 10 of 12 shooting. Both the starting backcourt for Oregon are seniors. Pritchard developed well last season as he came up huge in the PAC 12 tournament which was won by the Ducks. This starting backcourt was along for last year’s ride in the NCAA Tournament where they were eliminated in the second round giving eventual champion Virginia a scare in a 53-49 defeat. This season the Ducks are shooting 55.8% with 43.8% from three while limiting opponents to 39% and 25.4% from beyond the arc. Head coach Dana Altman has assembled good supporting talent around this talented backcourt. In Penny Hardaway’s first season as head coach of Memphis the team earned an NIT Tournament big where they lost in the second round and went 22-14 overall. Memphis loses all five of their starters from last season. This is a very young team filled with sophomore and freshman. This is a huge step up in class for the Tigers who opened with home games to South Carolina St and Illinois Chicago. Play Oregon -4.

Creighton vs. Michigan—College basketball is Creighton Bluejays +5.5. Creighton returns four starters from last season with six of their top seven scorers back. Bluejays suffered through injuries last season and just missed earning a bid into the NCAA Tournament. These non-conference games take extra meaning for an experienced team that missed the NCAA Tournament the previous season. Creighton in their opener shot the ball extremely well at 52.4% with 48% from three. Michigan failed to cover in their home opener against Appalachian St. Wolverines return two starters from last year and have a first year head coach in Juwan Howard. They lost a lot of their scoring and leadership from a season ago. Tough to replace John Beilien at Michigan. His teams defended very well. In the opener against the Mountaineers the Wolverines did surrender 45.8% shooting. Those are numbers you don’t like to see early in the non-conference against small schools. Play Creighton +5.5.
