Cincinnati vs. Ohio St Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
Cincinnati at Ohio St—College football pick is Cincinnati Bearcats +17. It was a strong defensive performance by the Bearcats as they defeated Chip Kelly’s UCLA team 24-14. Bearcats had an experienced UCLA team to just 218 offensive yards. They held UCLA to just 1.7 yards per rush attempt on 36 carries and a 30.8% completion rate. Team had success moving the football on a Bruins defense returning ten starters by gaining 417 yards with 242 passing. This is an 11 win team from a hear ago that returns seven starters on offense and defense. Returning quarterback, running back and playmakers in the passing game. Bearcats experienced in the back seven. This was a Bearcats defense that held opponents to 17 points per game last season. Ohio St gets the win against an FAU team lacking size and physician strength on offense. Now the Buckeyes four first year starters on the offense line must contain a strong defensive team in Cincinnati. Buckeyes did not cover in their win at home to Florida Atlantic. Justin Fields did put up good numbers last week in his debut with the Buckeyes but this is a much different opponent from Week 1. We did see the Ohio St defense surrender 403 yards per game last year which was their highest in seven seasons. Past three seasons Ohio St is 25-3 straight up as a favorite but 12-15 against the spread. Ohio St wins a lot of game but doesn’t cover and they battle a quality underdog here. Cincinnati gets enough points on the board to cover this huge number. Play Cincinnati Bearcats +17.
Syracuse vs. Maryland Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
Syracuse at Maryland—College football free pick is Maryland Terrapins +3. Syracuse opened with a 24-0 win at Liberty. The Flames beat up on bad teams last year but had trouble scoring in step up games against Army, North Texas, Virginia and Auburn averaging 11 points per game. Syracuse broke in a first year starter at quarterback in Tommy Davito with three first year starters on the offensive line and he completed only 17 of 35 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns. That is a major concern as the Orange plays back to back road games battling a Maryland team that showed great improvement last season on both sides of the football. Syracuse 4-8 straight up on the road past three seasons. Terrapins posted home wins to Texas and Minnesota last year and put a scare at home to Ohio St losing 52-51 as a +14 point underdog. Head coach Mike Locksley has four seasons as offensive coordinator in Maryland and was the offensive coordinator at Alabama the past two seasons. Junior quarterback Josh Jackson had a good debut as he transferred over from Virginia Tech. The distractions are gone from last year. They pounded an FCS school at home in Howard. Run game was strong for Maryland last year with 5.7 yards per run and their lead back returned this season. Maryland has been a fast start team going 6-2 straight up and against the spread the past three Septembers. Play Maryland +3.
West Virginia vs. Missouri Tigers Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
West Virginia at Missouri— Free pick is West Virginia +14.5. Oklahoma graduate transfer Austin Kendall a junior had two touchdowns and threw for 260 yards in their win against a good FCS program in James Madison. Mountaineers held a good program in the Dukes to 328 yards of offense with 5 of 14 on third down. New head coach Neal Brown comes over from Troy where he had success and built up a very good defense. Many of his assistants joined him with the Mountaineers. Lots of first year starters but they are experienced in the program with many juniors and seniors. Tough start to the season for Missouri as they traveled to the highest stadium elevation in college football at Wyoming and dropped a 37-31 decision. After building a 14-0 first quarterback lead the Tigers get outscored 37-17 the rest of the way. Missouri’s ground game produced only 2.7 yards per rush on 42 carries. A -3 turnover margin hurt Missouri. Rush defense atrocious for the Tigers in the loss giving up 297 yards on 42 carries for 7.1 yards per carry. Two Wyoming Cowboys rushed for over 100 yards which included their quarterback. Tigers defense surrendered touchdown runs of 61 and 75 yards. Missouri also allowed a 30 yard fumble recovery for touchdown. Two first year starters in the middle at defensive tackle for the Tigers who have only six back on defense.
LSU vs. Texas Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
LSU at Texas—College football pick is LSU Tigers -4.5. LSU executed precisely on both sides of the field in their win to Georgia Southern team that won ten games last year with experience on both sides of the football. LSU is experienced team with eight starters returning on offense and to the defense. All four on the defensive line and six starters return to the front seven. Team returns their starting quarterback in Joe Burrow and his playmakers in the passing game. Longhorns are not an experienced team with five starters returning on offense and three to the defense. Concern is the three first year starters on the offensive line and tight end blocking that tough LSU front seven. On defense it is four first year starters on the defensive line and six first year starters in the front seven. LSU strength at the point of attack will be the difference here. Play LSU Tigers -4.5.
Texas A&M vs. Clemson Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
Texas A&M vs. Clemson—College football free pick is Texas A&M and Clemson Tigers to play over the total of 61 points. Last year the teams combined for 54 points. But this game is in Clemson and the Tigers offense will generate greater points production. Texas A&M got better as the season wore on. In their bowl game they put up 52 on NC State and it was a high scoring game to LSU. Aggies quarterback Kelly Mond enters his junior season and performed well. This is not an experienced Texas A&M defense returning only four starters. Tigers will have success offensively and that will force Texas A&M to throw which will lead to a high scoring game. Nebraska vs. Colorado Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
Nebraska vs. Colorado—Free pick is Colorado Buffaloes +5. Buffaloes traveled to Nebraska last year and came away with the 33-28 win. Colorado returns seven to their offense including their starting quarterback Steven Montez and NFL prospect at receiver in Laviska Shenault. Buffaloes had a good offensive performance in their 52-31 win to Colorado St on a neutral field. Montez was 13 of 20 for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Colorado run game generated 243 yards for 6.1 yards per run. Nebraska opened their season with a 35-21 win at home to South Alabama failing to cover as a -35 point favorite. Jaguars were a bad team last season finishing at 3-9 and returning only five starters on offense with inexperience in their back seven. Cornhuskers were a 4-8 team last year that scored only 30 points and allowed 31.3 points with 434 yards per game. Nebraska has inexperience on defense bringing back six starters. Their offense generated only 276 yards on the South Alabama defense with 98 yards rushing on 44 carries for 2.2 yards per run. Plus, Cornhuskers forced five turnovers and were sloppy committing three of their own. Nebraska has not been sharp in the non-conference failing to cover five of six. Play Colorado Buffaloes +5.
BYU vs. Tennessee Pick Prediction 9/7/2019
BYU vs. Tennessee—College football pick is BYU Cougars +3.5. BYU faced an express train in Utah as the Utes could field their best team in the Kyle Whittingham era. This is an experienced Cougars team that returns nine starters on offense and eight to the defense. BYU is experienced on the offensive and defensive line. They also bring back quarterback Zach Wilson and his weapons in the passing game. They did go into Wisconsin with many of these returning starters last year and came away with a 24-21 win. Despite experience on offense the Volunteers dropped a 38-30 decision at home to Georgia St. This was a team that got blown out to close the regular season with blowout losses to Missouri and Vanderbilt. This is a Volunteers team that is inexperienced on their defensive line. Tennessee surrendered 213 rushing yards and 10 of 17 conversions on third down to the Panthers. Play BYU Cougars +3.5.
