The offense digressed mightily over the past few years and in the 2012 season the Chargers were 31st and second to last in the league by posting just 297 yards per game. They struggled in both running and throwing the football. San Diego finished ninth in total defense as they allowed 326 yards per game to their opponents. To help the run game the Chargers draft an offensive tackle D.J. Fluke out of Alabama with their first pick.
