Time: 7:05PM ET TV: CBS
It will be a Big East Elite 8 matchup when the Villanova Wildcats face the Pittsburgh Panthers in the East Regional Final. The LVSC opening send out point spread was Pittsburgh a 2-point favorite with the over under at 140. The early money saw money on Pittsburgh, as the Panthers are a 2-½ point favorite. The early bettors have bet the total up as the over under currently sits at 142. Pittsburgh rallied from an 8-point halftime deficit against Xavier to pull out a 60-55 victory. The teams met at Villanova on January 28th with the Villanova Wildcats winning 67-57 as a 3-point underdog. The Wildcats were hot from the outside as they hit on 40% of their 3-point shots. Pitt was ice cold from the three-point line in the second half of that meeting going 0-10. Villanova as they proved against Duke is a very good offensive team in the second half as the Wildcats average 40 points per game in the second half while Pittsburgh only averages 32.9. Villanova’s guards like to drive to the basket as the unit does a good job of getting to the free throw line as they average 24.4 free throw attempts per game ranking them 18th in the nation. It’s worth noting in the teams meeting on January 28th DeJuan Blair fouled out in that game and was in foul trouble throughout the game. Blair only played 27 minutes in the Villanova loss. It could be interesting to see if Pittsburgh is wary of committing fouls, which may lead to some passive play when the Wildcats guards are on the move to the basket. With 18 defensive rebounds per game the Panthers rank 4th nationally in that category. The Panthers are very good on the offensive boards as the team is ranked 8th in the nation with 13.2 offensive rebounds per game. Pittsburgh averages 47.8% shooting ranking them 20th in the nation.
The Wagerline consensus has 52.6 % of the bettors on Villanova +2
Trend: The under is 5-0 in their previous 5 meetings.
