MLB Detroit Tigers @ Arizona Diamondbacks Preview
By Tony T | May 16, 2008
Detroit (Galarraga) @ Arizona (Scherzer) (8:05PM ET) (MLB PPV)
It looked like the Tigers had turned the corner hovering over .500 and near the top of the AL Central. But another bad spell as the Tigers dropped 9 of 11 and they find themselves with a 16-24 record and 5 games back through 40 games. The Tigers scored 2 runs or less in 7 of those 11 contests. Galarraga is slated for a return to Triple A when Dontrelle Willis is back from the DL, which looks like as early as next week. Manager Jim Leyland has been happy with the youngster because he throws strikes and doesn’t allow baserunners. In 5 starts this season Galarraga sports an ERA of 3.07 and an impressive WHIP of under a run. WHIP measures walks and hits per innings pitched and the lower the better which results in fewer bigger innings given up by pitchers. Max Scherzer is on the hill for the D’backs and pitched well in his second career start limiting the Cubs to only 5 hits and 1 unearned run over 6 innings. He got over the jitters of his first career start and got ahead of hitters at Wrigley. We have two starters who throw strikes and sport low WHIPs plus a Tiger offense that is struggling which makes a play on the under is the right play in this one. Play under 9.
Selection: UNDER 9 runs
